The Immigration and Citizenship Agency of the Federal Republic of Somalia (ICA) has launched a serious probe following allegations that the Somalia national airspace and airport were used to facilitate the movement of a fugitive and political figure.
In a press release dated January 8th, 2026, ICA said they had launched investigations following the allegations from the Saudi-led coalition that Aidarous Al-Zoubaidi, leader of the Yemen’s Southern Transitional Council (STC), escaped a treason charge in Yemen by transiting through Somali territory.
The agency said the alleged unauthorized use of its facilities is a serious violation of Somalia’s national sovereignty and immigration regulations. The statement further said the facilitation of fugitives or conduct of unilateral operations on Somali territory without lawful authorization is unacceptable and contradicts both national and international legal frameworks.
Reports indicate that Al-Zoubaidi fled Yemen by sea, docking at the port of Berbera before boarding an aircraft that allegedly transited through the Mogadishu International Airport route to the United Arab Emirates. The Federal Government of Somalia reiterated its support for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s call for dialogue in Riyadh as the legitimate path for addressing the conflict in Yemen.
The ICA noted that any attempt by Al-Zoubaidi to evade this political process, reportedly supported by external actors, directly undermines ongoing diplomatic efforts. Somalia has further vowed to take appropriate measures in accordance with its findings to ensure full accountability.
