SOMALIA: President Leads Army Day Celebrations as Forces Hold Military Parade

A ceremony marking the 66th anniversary of the founding of the Somali National Army is currently taking place at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Mogadishu.

The event is attended by the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, alongside senior commanders and officials from various branches of the armed forces. The anniversary is observed annually as a key national occasion, highlighting the historic role of the Somali National Army in safeguarding the country’s sovereignty.

As part of the celebrations, the armed forces are expected to conduct a military parade and traditional displays, demonstrating their readiness, discipline, and operational capabilities in defending the nation.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is expected to deliver an address focusing on the history, sacrifices, and achievements of the Somali National Army, as well as the contributions of its personnel over the decades.

The Somali National Army was established on 12 April 1960, and this year marks 66 years since its founding.
