Raxanreeb Online Mogadishu: A coordinated security operation in the outcasts of the capital city, Mogadishu, by the Federal Government of Somalia military force has eliminated key Al-Shabaab militia leaders.

The operation that was conducted in Mogadishu and Middle Shabelle also resulted in the dismantling of sleeper cells and the arrest of 11 others. These crucial offensive gains come as the federal government of Somalia is pushing hard to maintain law and order in Somalia.

“Somalia makes major progress against the Al-Shabaab this week; the militant threat is weakened, paving the way for political development ahead of the election,” said Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism Daud Aweis in a statement.

Somalia is on course to conduct the one-person-one-vote election for the national parliamentary and presidential election slated for May 2026, and the Al-Shabaab militia has been among some major hindrances for the historic exercise in Somalia since 1969.

The arrest of the 11 Al-Shabaab members is a big win for the national intelligence and security agencies in Somalia; the dismantling of the (Kharijites) sleeper cells is also vital in the fight. Because the militants use these hideouts to conduct asymmetric attacks, targeted bombing, assassination, and intelligence collection in the urban areas.
