Former President of Somalia, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo, has called on the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, to demonstrate compromise and prioritize the nation’s stability amid ongoing political tensions.
Farmaajo made the remarks while reacting to a meeting he held yesterday with the Presidents of Puntland and Jubbaland. According to his statement, the discussions focused on the country’s current political situation and the urgent need for genuine consultations to overcome existing challenges.
“The meeting particularly addressed the political circumstances facing the country and the necessity of meaningful dialogue to navigate the present challenges,” Farmaajo said. “I welcomed the arrival of the two regional presidents to the capital, Mogadishu, and encouraged efforts aimed at reaching an inclusive agreement to safeguard the country from uncertainty and potential security instability stemming from disputes related to elections and constitutional matters.”
He added that they are awaiting President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud at the negotiating table to engage in constructive dialogue.
In his concluding remarks, Farmaajo urged President Hassan Sheikh to exercise flexibility and leadership to resolve the current deadlock and prevent the country from entering a constitutional vacuum.
The statement comes at a time of heightened political tensions over electoral processes and constitutional reforms, with growing calls for dialogue among federal and regional leaders to preserve national unity and stability.
