Jubbaland Forces Smash Al-Shabaab Bomb Factory

Security forces from the Jubbaland Intelligence and Security Agency, backed by Jubbaland’s Darawiish forces, have dismantled an improvised explosive device (IED) manufacturing facility allegedly operated by Al-Shabaab in a coordinated security operation in Lower Juba.

The targeted site was located in the Badda-Madow area between Ras Kamboni and Badhaadhe, specifically in the vicinity of Hola-Wajeer and surrounding areas. According to security officials, the operation led to the seizure of nearly 90 landmines from a single location, along with materials and equipment used in assembling explosive devices. Additional explosives believed to have been in preparation were also recovered.

Authorities further confirmed that approximately 50 Al-Shabaab fighters were killed during armed confrontations in the area, with their bodies transported to Ras Kamboni.

Security officials indicated that the recovered explosive devices were intended for use against civilian targets. Communities in Jubbaland and Kenya’s North Eastern region have previously endured casualties and infrastructural damage from roadside bombs and improvised explosives planted by the group.

The operation is part of sustained counterterrorism efforts aimed at degrading Al-Shabaab’s operational capabilities, protecting civilian populations, and ensuring the security of trade routes and cross-border movement in the region.
