Jubaland State President Ahmed Mohammed Islam Madobe has called for state reconciliation and peace, declaring that no personal interest supersedes the state’s collective peace.
The Madobe announcement follows the release of Senator Ilyaas Badal Gaboose who has been under house arrest for the last 16 months in Kisimayu, and a formal meeting with the prominent cleric Sheikh Daahir Ahmed Abdullahi.
Senator Gaboose has been under house arrest since November 2024, following a political escalation in Kisimayu, where he had pronounced himself president of Jubaland with a group of opposition leaders. A move the Jubaland administration views as an attempt to destabilize the region and create a parallel government.
Gaboose,The Sunday statement by President Madobe is seen as a housecleaning strategy to navigate tense relationships with the federal government.
“My brothers Senator Ilyaas Badal Gaboose and Sheikh Daahir Ahmed Abdullahi and I know together that the general interest, peace, and unity of the Jubbaland people are above all else, and we will work together for the interest of the people of Jubaland.” President Madobe said in the statement.
Gaboose, He added that the state of Jubaland has opened the door to all opposition political players and rivals to reach out so as to ensure the stability of Jubaland.
“The Jubaland government is ready for unlimited compromise to ensure unity and full cooperation. We are determined to solve all political differences in every path of peace while protecting the public interest, stability, and future of Jubaland people.” He added.
The Kisimayo consensus between Madobe and his political rivals could serve as a blueprint for other regional states to resolve internal conflicts.
