Somalia and Egypt Hold High-Level Talks on Bilateral Cooperation in Cairo

Cairo (Raxanreeb Online) — Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdisalam Abdi Ali, held bilateral talks in Cairo with Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Expatriates, Badr Abdelatty, on the margins of the second ministerial meeting of the Russia–Africa Partnership Forum, convened on 19–20 December.

The talks focused on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in economic development, investment, and security. Both sides emphasized the importance of effective and results-oriented collaboration in support of regional stability and sustainable development.

Minister Abdisalam welcomed Egypt’s continued support for Somalia and reaffirmed Mogadishu’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Cairo, particularly in diplomacy, security, and institutional capacity-building. He also underscored the importance of enhanced regional coordination to advance durable peace and stability.

Minister Abdelatty noted the positive trajectory of relations between Egypt and Somalia, reiterating Egypt’s commitment to strengthening the strategic partnership. He said the re-establishment of Egypt’s embassy in Mogadishu would enable closer diplomatic engagement and improved coordination between the two countries.

The meeting also reviewed regional security developments. Egypt reaffirmed its support for stability in Somalia and the Horn of Africa and highlighted the need for sustained international financing to support the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) to ensure its effectiveness.
