Somalia: Historic day in Banadir as long queues are witness in polling stations

Long queues have been witnessed in polling stations as residents in the Banadir area wake up early to exercise their constitutional right in a local council election that has put Somalia on the watch globally.

A quick spot check in Shangani district, Karaan district, and Waberi district showed a calm atmosphere as residents continued to stream in to the polling stations to cast their votes.

In some areas of the Shangani district, police officers were spotted assisting the elderly who had arrived early for the elections.

A police officer has also been spotted manning the polling station as the voting process kicks off.
