The Somali National Army has discovered a massive hidden arsenal during a targeted sweep in the Jiib Marko area of the Lower Shabelle region.
In an ongoing operation to flush out the Al-Shabaab militia in Somalia, while acting on intelligence, the elite forces uncovered multiple underground pits and storage facilities used to conceal Al-Shabaab’s array of military hardware.
The Somali forces have termed recent discoveries as one of the major seizures in the Lower Shabelle region.
The army uncovered heavy and light weaponry, a mix of high-caliber arms and standard infantry rifles, thousands of rounds of various calibers of ammunition stored in reinforced containers, and military gear, which was freshly manufactured uniform and tactical equipment.
They also uncovered logistics supplies of large water barrels and dry rations, suggesting the site served as a strategic rearm and refuel point for the militants in the region.
This discovery in Jilib Marko is part of an intensified offensive to dismantle the infrastructure of the Al-Shabaab militia in Lower Shabelle.
The Somali National Army has destroyed over 5 centers that were being inhabited by the terror group, who are targeting civilian and government installations.
