The Office of the Prime Minister of Somalia has issued a formal invitation to the Somalia Future Council, a political coalition that includes the Puntland and Jubaland administrations, as well as the Salvation Council, inviting them to participate in a national political dialogue.
According to information obtained by Dawan, the Federal Government of Somalia is expected in the coming hours to extend an official invitation to the opposition-aligned Somalia Future Council to engage in direct talks with the government, with discussions expected to focus primarily on electoral issues and the broader political process.
The invitation follows a recent telephone conversation between President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and several opposition figures, during which the parties agreed in principle to convene talks during the first week of February, with Mogadishu proposed as the host city.
Despite this development, uncertainty remains over the practical arrangements and political assurances that may be required to secure the participation of the Puntland and Jubaland leaderships, amid ongoing political tensions and unresolved disputes with the Federal Government.
The initiative is viewed as part of renewed efforts by the federal leadership, under Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, to ease political polarization and revive dialogue at a critical juncture for Somalia’s electoral roadmap and national governance process.
Further details regarding the agenda, format, and level of representation are expected to be announced in the coming days.
