In the latest surge of clan conflict in central Somalia, a fierce clash broke out today between two rival militias on the outskirts of Dhuusamareeb, the capital of Galmudug.
The fighting erupted in Labi-caano, an area situated to the east of Dhuusamareeb, and has led to significant human loss and injuries. Local sources have confirmed that at least 11 people lost their lives in the violence, while several more sustained injuries, affecting both militia members and nearby civilians. Witnesses describe the use of varied weaponry, with both sides still engaged in a tense standoff at the site of the confrontation.
The root of the conflict reportedly lies in a longstanding dispute over access to grazing land and water resources, with the rival militias drawn from the Ceelgaras and Dhuusamareeb communities. The atmosphere remains highly charged, with opposing forces maintaining their positions in Labi-caano.
This incident is part of a troubling pattern in central Somalia, where clan-based conflicts frequently resurface, undermining peace and threatening the safety and stability of local communities. The repeated cycle of violence has had a profound impact on the people of Galmudug, deepening divides and complicating efforts for sustainable peace.
