A temporary security lockdown has been imposed in Las Anod, with authorities suspending all vehicular movement in the city for the next 48 hours, amid heightened security preparations for a high-level federal government visit.
The decision was announced by the Minister of Information of the North Eastern Administration, Ahmed Dirie, who said the measures are part of broader efforts to maintain public order and ensure the safety of residents and visiting officials.
Security across Las Anod has been significantly reinforced, with large numbers of security personnel deployed along major roads, intersections, and key public facilities throughout the city.
The restrictions come as several advance delegations from the Federal Government of Somalia have arrived in Las Anod in recent days, ahead of the visit by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, who are expected to arrive later today.
The President and Prime Minister are scheduled to attend an official inauguration ceremony on Saturday, during which Abdikadir Ahmed Aw Ali (Firdhiye) will be sworn in as President of the North Eastern Administration.
Authorities said the temporary restrictions are precautionary and aimed at facilitating the smooth conduct of the visit and associated official events, while safeguarding public security.
