Somalia and Sudan have held diplomatic talks in Mogadishu focusing on regional security, with particular emphasis on the Red Sea, the Bab al-Mandab Strait, and the Indian Ocean.
The meeting brought together Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdisalam Abdi Ali Dhaay, and Sudan’s Ambassador to Somalia, Abdirahman Khalil Ahmed Abubakar. Discussions centered on enhancing cooperation to safeguard strategic maritime routes that are critical to regional stability and international trade.
During the talks, the Sudanese ambassador reaffirmed his country’s position in support of Somalia’s unity and territorial integrity, stressing Sudan’s opposition to any actions that could undermine Somalia’s sovereignty. He reiterated Khartoum’s rejection of claims that Israel has granted recognition to Somaliland.
Minister Abdisalam, in turn, emphasized the Federal Government of Somalia’s commitment to respecting Sudan’s sovereignty and national unity, noting the country’s ongoing recovery from years of internal conflict. He also expressed appreciation for the Sudanese ambassador’s recent visit to Las Anod, describing it as a positive indication of strengthening bilateral relations.
Somalia and Sudan share longstanding diplomatic ties rooted in cooperation on trade, education, and security. Both sides reaffirmed their intention to deepen collaboration as part of broader efforts to promote stability and security across the region.
