Sweden has assured the Federal Government of Somalia of its willingness to invest and support the development of Somalia’s economic environment, as the country advances wide-ranging reforms and restructuring efforts.
Speaking in Mogadishu after meeting Somalia’s Minister of Finance, H.E. Bihi Iman Egeh, Sweden’s Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, H.E. Benjamin Dousa, said Sweden is exploring ways to deepen bilateral relations with Somalia beyond the economic sphere.
Sweden is a long-standing partner of Somalia through development assistance that has largely focused on peacebuilding initiatives and humanitarian support. It has also contributed to institutional capacity building for key government bodies, including the Ministry of Finance.
Minister Egeh said the talks centred on Somalia’s economic reform agenda and strengthening bilateral relations, describing Sweden as a valuable partner in Somalia’s reform journey.
Somalia is currently undertaking key reforms in sector governance and fiscal management, including expanding domestic revenue mobilisation, strengthening public financial management, modernising the tax system, and improving transparency in the management of public resources.
