UN Envoy and Puntland President Hold Talks on Security and Development in Somalia

United Nations Special Envoy for Somalia, James Swan, met with Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni in Garowe to discuss significant issues affecting both Puntland and Somalia as a whole. The talks focused on the political and security situation, highlighting Puntland’s important role in Somalia’s ongoing reconciliation and nation-building efforts. Both leaders emphasized the need for enhancing security and promoting peace within the region.

Additionally, they discussed ways to advance democratic processes and implement development projects aimed at improving Puntland’s infrastructure and economy. These efforts align with broader national and international goals for Somalia’s development, reflecting a shared commitment to fostering growth and stability.

Envoy Swan’s visit to Garowe forms part of a larger initiative to strengthen cooperation between Somalia’s Federal Government and its federal member states. This approach aims to address critical challenges through open dialogue and collaborative actions, particularly in the fight against common threats such as Al-Shabaab, while promoting good governance.

This engagement is one of many by the UN envoy across Somalia, underscoring the international community’s continued support for Somalia’s path towards stability and self-governance. It highlights the importance of ensuring all regions are included in peacebuilding and development initiatives, as part of the broader effort to solidify Somalia’s federalism.
