Somali Parliament Speaker Meets British Ambassador to Discuss Bilateral Relations

Mogadishu, Somalia – In a significant diplomatic engagement, the Speaker of Somalia’s Federal Parliament, Sheikh Adan Madobe, held discussions with the British Ambassador to Somalia, Mike Nithavrianakis, on Tuesday in Mogadishu. The meeting centered on enhancing cooperation and deepening the longstanding ties between Somalia and the United Kingdom.

Ambassador Nithavrianakis expressed his satisfaction with the strong relationship between the two nations, highlighting the British Government’s positive outlook on ongoing collaborative efforts. He praised the Somali Parliament for recent legislative achievements, including the passage of critical laws and the approval of the 2025 national budget, noting these as substantial steps toward stability and development.

The ambassador reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s support for Somalia’s democratic initiatives, commending the government’s commitment to holding national elections. This endorsement aligns with the UK’s broader goals of promoting democratic governance within Somalia.

The Acting President of Somalia, who was present at the meeting, acknowledged the UK’s sustained support across various sectors and emphasized its importance for Somalia’s ongoing progress. Both the Acting President and Speaker Madobe highlighted recent advancements within Somalia’s political, security, and economic arenas, as well as efforts to combat extremism.
