Somali President Engages Opposition Bloc Amid Rift Over Federal Participation

Mogadishu  ( Raxanreeb Online) -President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud met with members of the Somali opposition alliance, Madasha Samatabixinta Soomaaliya, in a renewed push to address growing political concerns and chart a path forward on key national issues.

The meeting, held at Villa Somalia, focused on the ongoing constitutional review process and preparations for the country’s next electoral cycle. According to sources familiar with the talks, both sides discussed the need for inclusive decision-making and a shared vision for Somalia’s democratic future.

Also raised during the discussions was the absence of Puntland and Jubbaland from recent National Consultative Council meetings—an issue that has sparked debate over the unity and effectiveness of the federal system.

While neither Villa Somalia nor the opposition group has released an official statement on the outcome of the talks, the engagement is seen as part of President Hassan Sheikh’s broader effort to ease tensions and foster political reconciliation.

The Somali Salvation Forum is led by former President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and includes former prime ministers and senior political figures. Their support is considered crucial to achieving consensus on Somalia’s complex political reforms.
