Mogadishu (Raxanreeb Online) — Somalia’s Ministry of Defence says government forces have carried out a planned operation against Al-Shabaab in Jabadgodane, an area under Xawaadley district in the Middle Shabelle region, following reports of clashes and airstrikes in recent hours.
In a statement dated 21 December 2025, the Ministry said the Somali National Army conducted the operation in Jabadgodane and claimed it resulted in the deaths of 15 Al-Shabaab members. The Ministry said those killed included senior figures it described as well-known local commanders in Middle Shabelle, whom it accused of being involved in abuses against civilians and the organisation of militant attacks.
The Ministry, which referred to the group as “Khawaarij,” identified some of the individuals it said were killed. They included Jacfar Aadan, described as Al-Shabaab’s commander in Jabadgodane; Cabdirisaaq Cali, whom the Ministry said was responsible for providing medical treatment for fighters; and a man identified as Daa’uud, described as a commander linked to a faction that had been hiding in the area.
The Ministry said the operation had significantly weakened the group’s operational capacity in the locality, particularly its leadership structures, mobilisation capabilities and supply lines. It added that the operation was part of continued efforts by national forces to dismantle Al-Shabaab and restore sustainable peace and stability across Somalia.
