Bosaso, Somalia — Sources in the port city of Bosaso, the administrative capital of Bari region, have confirmed that a large number of foreign personnel departed the city on Monday via Bosaso International Airport. The individuals were predominantly Colombian nationals.
The personnel had been stationed at Bosaso Port for several years and were linked to UAE-affiliated operations. Their departure is part of a broader plan by the United Arab Emirates to withdraw its staff and diplomatic presence from Somalia.
The move follows a formal decision by the Federal Government of Somalia to annul bilateral agreements with the UAE covering security, defence, and development cooperation. The decision has had direct consequences for Emirati-supported activities in different parts of the country.
As of the time of reporting, the Puntland State Government has not issued an official statement regarding the withdrawal of UAE-linked personnel from Bosaso.
The situation is being closely watched amid potential political, security, and economic implications, particularly for port operations and relations between Somalia’s federal authorities and regional administrations.
