Turkish Intelligence Delegation Visits Sheikh Sharif Residence Amid Opposition Talks

A delegation reportedly representing Turkey’s intelligence services visited the residence of former Somali President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed on Friday, where a meeting involving opposition leaders was underway, sources familiar with the matter said.

According to the sources, the delegation’s security was provided by Turkish military personnel. The purpose of the visit was not immediately disclosed.

The development follows Sheikh Sharif’s return to his former residence after spending time in Mogadishu’s Abdiaziz district, an area where he had recently relocated amid heightened political and security tensions.

Sources further indicated that Sheikh Sharif’s return was facilitated following mediation efforts led by the Turkish government, which has maintained close diplomatic and security ties with Somalia.

Neither the Somali government nor Turkish officials have publicly commented on the reported visit.

The meeting comes at a time of increased political consultations among opposition figures, as discussions continue over key national issues and the country’s political future.
