Jubaland’s President Ahmed Madobe Leaves Mogadishu for Kismayo After Talks Fail

Jubaland’s President, Ahmed Madobe, is reportedly leaving Aden Adde Airport in Mogadishu and heading back to Kismayo, the main city of his region.

His departure shows that the recent talks in Mogadishu between the federal government and regional leaders have failed. These meetings were meant to discuss elections and other important national issues.

Madobe has made it clear that he won’t discuss elections or other key matters unless leaders from Puntland and SSC-Khaatumo are also present. Despite many efforts by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre to convince him, they could not reach an agreement.

The Somali federal government had already strained its relationship with Puntland, and now it seems that Jubaland might be taking a similar stance.
