Massive protests sweep over 5 major towns in Somalia over Israel statement

Thousands of residents took to the streets of Adado to demonstrate and denounce what the local leaders are calling blatant Israeli interference in Somalia’s internal affairs.

The protests have spread across other cities in Somalia as the residents continue to castigate Israel’s formal recognition of Somaliland as a sovereign state.

In Adado, the administrative town of Galmudug state, the demonstrations were led by local government officials, traditional leaders, and prominent poets; the crowd marched through streets chanting the slogan “Somalia is one; our borders are sacred.”

The capital, Mogadishu, has also witnessed tens of thousands of demonstrators who gathered at Daljirka Dahson. in the southwest region, in Baidoa city local clans issued a joint statement affirming their allegiance to the Mogadishu-based federal government.
In the Awdal region in the city of Borama, significant demonstrations occurred near the border, with residents waving the Palestinian flags in solidarity against shared perceived aggression.

The current unrest in Somalia was ignited on December 26th, 2025, after Israel officially recognized the sovereignty of Somaliland.

The United Nations Security Council in a special emergency sitting denounced the declaration and supported Somalia’s sovereignty.
