KISMAYO- first delegation from Somalia’s opposition forum arrived in Kismayo on Tuesday, ahead of the forum’s senior leadership, which is currently based in Mogadishu, according to local reports.
A high-level political conference is expected to officially open in Kismayo on Thursday, where participants are set to review the country’s overall situation, with a particular focus on politics, elections, and Somalia’s future direction.
Reports say Villa Somalia is closely monitoring the meeting, as it is expected to include consultations and decisions that could influence the country’s political process.
Security measures have been significantly tightened across Kismayo, with Jubbaland security forces deployed along major roads to secure the safety of delegates and visiting guests.
More senior delegations are expected to arrive on Wednesday, including former President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, former Prime Ministers Hassan Ali Khaire and Mohamed Hussein Roble, and other prominent political figures. Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni is also expected to travel to Kismayo on Wednesday to attend the conference, which observers say could have broad political implications.
