Garowe (Raxanreeb Online) – The Puntland regional administration has called on the people and authorities of Somaliland to resolve the situation in Awdal region through dialogue and to safeguard the stability of the area.

In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Puntland State Minister for the Presidency Cabdifitaax Maxamed Cabdinuur urged that all grievances be addressed peacefully.

“To the people of Awdal, and to the people and government of Somaliland in general, I call for any existing grievances to be addressed and resolved through dialogue. Preserve the peace and stability you have long enjoyed,” the minister wrote.

Minister Cabdifitaax also extended his condolences to those killed and injured during recent protests in Borama, the capital of Awdal region, and praised efforts to calm the situation.

“I extend my condolences to all those who lost their lives and those who were injured in the disturbances that took place in Borama. I commend all efforts aimed at de-escalating the situation,” he said.

Latest reports indicate that tensions remain high in Borama on Sunday morning, despite ongoing attempts by local actors to restore calm.
