Lower Shabelle (Raxanreeb Online) – The Somali National Army (SNA) has conducted a planned security operation in the Lower Shabelle region, with the 19th and 25th battalions taking part.
According to the army command, the mission targeted Al-Shabaab movements in rural areas of the region. During the operation, soldiers successfully uncovered and removed landmines planted along civilian roads, which militants had intended to use to harm the local population.
“The 19th and 25th battalions achieved notable success in the operation by clearing explosives planted by the Khawaarij on public roads,” read a statement issued by the SNA command.
Officials added that the operation is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security and curb militant activity in Lower Shabelle.
This latest development comes shortly after Somali forces, working with ATMIS peacekeepers, regained control of Bariire—a strategic settlement in the region that had been under Al-Shabaab presence in recent months.
