Somali Government Launches Major Military Campaign Against Al-Shabaab

BELEDWEYNE, Somalia – The Federal Government of Somalia has launched an intensified military offensive against Al-Shabaab militants, concentrating efforts in regions still under the group’s influence, particularly in Hiran.

Military preparations in the Hiran region are reported to be extensive, as government forces aim to dismantle Al-Shabaab’s remaining strongholds. Commanders on the ground emphasize the operation’s significance in securing the area and neutralizing the militant group’s presence.

The Ministry of Defense, through its spokesperson, Brigadier General Abukar Mohamed Hassan, has called on local residents to assist the military. “This operation is crucial for the security and stability of our regions. We urge all civilians to support our forces as they work to liberate these areas,” he stated.

This large-scale campaign follows earlier military successes where Somali forces reclaimed key territories previously under Al-Shabaab’s control. However, the government acknowledges challenges from past efforts and is determined to fully neutralize the threat posed by the extremist group.

Al-Shabaab has long dominated parts of southern and central Somalia, posing a significant obstacle to stability in the region. With this renewed offensive, Somali authorities hope to weaken the group’s grip and restore peace and security to affected areas.
