LAS ANOD, Somalia — A high-level delegation led by Somalia’s Prime Minister, Hamza Abdi Barre, is expected to arrive in Las Anod in the coming hours, amid heightened security and ongoing preparations to welcome the federal government team, local officials and residents said.
Security has been reinforced across the city as reception arrangements continue, with authorities increasing checks and deploying additional personnel in key areas.
Officials say the prime minister’s visit is intended to reinforce national unity at a time when the federal government is pursuing diplomatic and political efforts to respond to reports that Israel has allegedly extended recognition to Somaliland.
Las Anod is also expected to host the inauguration of Abdikadir “Firdhiye,” who is due to be sworn in as president of the North East regional administration.
Separately, Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is also expected to travel to Las Anod on Saturday, leading another delegation, according to the same sources.
