Mogadishu (Raxanreeb Online) — President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, on Monday formally signed the new Constitution of the Federal Republic of Somalia, describing it as the central pillar of the country’s state-building process and legal framework, following its approval by both chambers of the Federal Parliament.
The President said the government would immediately begin implementing the new constitution, which he said would provide the legal and institutional foundation for strengthening state institutions, protecting citizens’ rights, and advancing Somalia’s democratic governance.
“Today marks the conclusion of the long journey of reviewing the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Somalia, which for many years remained provisional and was recently approved by the Federal Parliament. God willing, from today onward, we will begin its implementation,” President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said.
He noted that the adoption and formal enactment of the new constitutional text represented a significant milestone in Somalia’s political and institutional development, as the country seeks to consolidate its governance structures and reinforce the rule of law.
The signing ceremony was attended by Speaker of the House of the People Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur, Speaker of the Upper House Senator Abdi Hashi Abdullahi, and the chairpersons of the parliamentary committees responsible for the constitutional review process.
The move signals the beginning of a new phase in Somalia’s constitutional and governance trajectory, with the government now expected to oversee the practical implementation of the newly signed constitutional framework.
