
Raxanreeb Online Mogadishu: Somalia’s Minister of Health and Human Services, Dr. Ali Haji Adam, has urged Turkish investors to explore public-private partnerships, a move aimed at ensuring the sustainability and independence of essential medical services in Somalia.
Minister Adam was addressing the 11th joint Turkish Medical World Congress in Ankara, where he noted the partnerships with Türkiye, which have spanned over 15 years.
“We note Türkiye’s strong support for Somalia’s health sector and call for greater investment and PPP opportunities to strengthen the health sector.”
The minister also paid a visit to the University of Health Sciences of Türkiye in Ankara, where he held a productive meeting with the Rector to strengthen cooperation in health education and training.
Türkiye’s move is geared towards supporting Somalia’s advance exchange program with Türkiye and expanding its workforce in the medical field.
Türkiye’s noted partnership with Somalia in the medical field has spanned over decades, with major investment support being the 2015-launched Recep Tayyip Erdogan Education and Research Hospital in Mogadishu.
Türkiye’s state-of-the-art 200-capacity health facility that was inaugurated by President Erdogan in 2015 and is jointly managed by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency.
Türkiye has also been a key ally in the humanitarian support for Somalia.
Minister Adam, however, noted that there was an urgent need to shift to public-private partnership investment to build a more sustainable, efficient health sector in Somalia. Türkiye
