Somalia’s Top Prosecutor Vows Tough Action on Social Media Abuses

Mogadishu — The Office of the Attorney General has issued a stern warning against individuals engaging in defamation, character assassination, and the spread of harmful content on social media platforms.

In an official statement, the Attorney General’s Office revealed that it is currently handling multiple cases related to insults, defamation, social division, circulation of immoral content, misinformation, and public incitement. Some of these cases have already been brought before the courts, while others remain under investigation.

The statement stressed that such actions pose a serious threat to social stability, personal reputations, and public trust within Somali society.

The Office made clear that any individual found guilty of violating national laws through these acts will face strict legal consequences. It further emphasized the importance of safeguarding dignity, reputation, and the peace and security of the Somali people.

Additionally, the Attorney General’s Office underscored that enforcing the law and preventing defamation-related crimes are essential pillars for achieving lasting peace and sustainable social development.
