The Somali Parliament has unanimously adopted a joint resolution categorically rejecting the recognition of Somaliland by the State of Israel.
In a special sitting of the two houses, their resolution date of December 28th, 2025, follows Israel’s recognition of the self-declared state of Somaliland. The parliament has branded the act as an unlawful act and a direct violation of Somali national sovereignty.
The document signed by Hon. Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur, speaker of the House of the People, and Senator Ali Sha’ban Ibrahim, 1st deputy speaker of the upper house, outlines 7 articles intended to nullify the diplomatic development.
Article 1 of the Federal Republic of Somalia stipulates that the Federal Republic of Somalia is a sovereign state and a member of the United Nations, adheres to international law, possesses a full legal personality, and has internationally recognized borders.
Article 4 of the resolution declares any recognition granted by Israel of any other state null and void without any legal validity. Article 6 warned that any individual or institution that violates this resolution will be subject to the Somali penal code and applicable international laws.
The federal government of Somalia has also directed a transmission of the resolution to the United Nations, the African Union, the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, IGAD, and the East African Community.
