Moqokori, Somalia – Al-Shabaab militants launched a coordinated attack early Monday morning on the village of Gumare, located approximately 40 kilometers from Moqokori district in the central Hiran region.
The assault began with a series of vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices (VBIEDs), followed by intense gunfire, according to local sources. The attack quickly escalated into a direct armed confrontation between the militants and Somali government forces operating in the area.
Eyewitnesses also report that Al-Shabaab simultaneously carried out another assault on Moqokori town itself, where federal forces are currently engaged in defending strategic positions.
