Bay, Somalia – The Somali National Army (SNA), particularly the 8th Battalion of the 60th Division, has carried out large-scale operations targeting al-Shabaab hideouts in several areas of Bay region, South West State.
According to military officials, the operations were conducted in locations including Garas Gamaan, Xinshiloole, Waneey, and other surrounding villages in western Bay. During the sweep, troops reportedly killed a number of al-Shabaab fighters and disrupted their activities.
Colonel Onkod Macallin Aadan, Commander of the 45th Unit of the 8th Battalion, told the media that the primary objective of the operation was to dismantle al-Shabaab bases and restrict the group’s movements in the area. He confirmed that traffic and movement of vehicles in and out of the targeted locations were temporarily halted to ensure operational success.
“The ongoing offensives are part of a broader campaign to eliminate terrorist strongholds and strengthen security along key roads in South West State,” said Colonel Onkod.
Officials emphasized that these operations will continue in order to accelerate stability and protect local communities from al-Shabaab threats.
