Garowe (Raxanreeb Online) – UK Ambassador to Somalia, Charles King, is expected to arrive in Puntland in the coming days at the head of a high-level delegation from the British Embassy in Mogadishu.
The visit will include a stop in the coastal city of Bosaso, where Ambassador King will be formally received by Puntland’s President Said Abdullahi Deni.
Diplomatic sources indicate that the two sides are scheduled to hold wide-ranging discussions on Somalia’s political and security situation. Key topics will include preparations for the 2026 elections and joint efforts to counter the threats posed by extremist groups such as the Islamic State and al-Shabaab.
The UK has been a longstanding partner of Somalia, providing support in governance, stabilization, and counter-terrorism initiatives. The upcoming talks are expected to reinforce cooperation between London and Puntland at a time when Somalia is navigating a critical phase in its political transition.
President Deni’s administration has been playing a significant role in shaping Puntland’s position within the federal system, while also confronting persistent security challenges in the region.
