Hiiraan, Somalia – Fresh details have emerged about fierce fighting between local Macawiisley militia and Al-Shabaab militants in Waab Weyne, an area under Maxaas district in Hiiraan region.

The clashes broke out after Macawiisley fighters launched an attack on Al-Shabaab members who were moving through rural areas surrounding Maxaas. The confrontation, described as intense, resulted in casualties on both sides, with reports of deaths and injuries.

Commanders leading the Macawiisley militia said the operation’s main objective was to prevent the militant group from expanding its presence into other parts of Hiiraan.

Hiiraan has become a key battleground where government forces, backed by Macawiisley fighters, are jointly conducting operations against Al-Shabaab. The allied forces have vowed to clear the militants from remaining strongholds in the region and restore stability to local communities.
