South West State administration executes officer over $2 killing.

The South West State administration on Saturday carried out a firing-squad execution of a police officer from the state’s Special Police Force after he was convicted of killing a civilian traveller during a dispute over two U.S. dollars.

The officer, Abdisamad Hassan Madnuur, was sentenced to death by the Armed Forces Court, Division 60, after prosecutors charged him with the murder of Abdiwahab Abdirahman Yusuf. The sentence was implemented under qisas (retaliatory justice) following the completion of legal procedures, according to officials.

The incident occurred in Berdale district of Bay region in late November 2025, after an argument over $2 escalated into a physical confrontation. The officer then shot and killed the victim, who was travelling through the area, court proceedings stated.

The execution took place at the Justice Pillar site on the outskirts of Baydhabo, specifically in the Fuulka Cali Deer area. Officials from the South West State administration, senior security officers and members of the victim’s family were present at the scene.
