Somalia Briefs EU Military Delegation on Recent Security Operations

Senior officials from the European Union met in Mogadishu with Somalia’s Minister of Defence, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, and the Chief of the Somali National Armed Forces, General Odowaa Yusuf Rage, to discuss security cooperation and ongoing stabilisation efforts.

According to a statement issued after the meeting, the talks focused on enhancing support for Somalia’s security sector and for African forces operating in the country under the AUSSOM framework.

The EU delegation was led by the Chair of the EU Military Committee, General Seán Clancy, who was accompanied by senior officials from the Union. The delegation reaffirmed the European Union’s commitment to contributing significantly to the strengthening of Somalia’s security and defence capabilities.

Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi briefed the visiting officials on recent military operations carried out by Somali government forces in several regions of the country, outlining progress made and successes achieved as part of ongoing security campaigns.

The European Union remains one of Somalia’s key international partners in efforts to consolidate security gains and promote long-term stability. It also continues to support the African Union-led AUSSOM mission, which operates with authorisation from the United Nations Security Council.
