Mogadishu — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia has categorically rejected as fabricated a document circulating on social media alleging that Somalia had reaffirmed its support for the Islamic Republic of Iran.
In an official statement released via its verified X account (formerly Twitter), the Ministry stated that the document, titled “Somalia Reaffirms Support for the Islamic Republic of Iran,” is fraudulent and did not originate from the Ministry or any authorized government channel.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia confirms that the document being circulated under the title ‘Somalia Reaffirms Support For The Islamic Republic Of Iran’ is fake and was not issued by the Ministry,” the statement said.
The Ministry underscored the importance of relying solely on verified government platforms for accurate information, particularly in light of the sensitive and evolving situation in the Middle East as of 28 February 2026. It warned that the dissemination of false or unverified content could create unnecessary confusion and potentially undermine Somalia’s diplomatic standing.
The statement concluded with a call for vigilance, urging media outlets and members of the public to refrain from sharing unconfirmed reports and to exercise responsibility in order to safeguard the country’s reputation and international relations.
