In a significant breakthrough against terrorism, Somali security forces have arrested a large number of ISIS members responsible for financing and orchestrating attacks in the coastal city of Bosaso. The operation marks a crucial step in ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability in the region.
Colonel Cabdiqaadir Jaamac Dirir, Commander of the Bari Regional Police Force, shared the news during a press briefing, highlighting the success of recent security operations. Among those detained were individuals tasked with collecting funds to support the militant group, as well as operatives involved in planting explosives.
“I am pleased to announce that our operations have yielded significant results. While we continue to combat militants hiding in the mountains, we are conducting even more aggressive operations within the city. We have captured numerous individuals responsible for both financing and carrying out acts of terror,” Colonel Dirir stated.
The commander also praised the vital role played by the local community in supporting security efforts. “I swear, I can hardly sleep at night because of the public’s vigilance. Whenever they suspect someone, they take immediate action to prevent them from escaping and promptly report to us. The citizens are the backbone of our success, and I sincerely thank them for their unwavering support,” he added.
The arrests come amid a broader crackdown targeting ISIS operatives engaged in financial extortion and urban bombings. With many key members now in custody, the ongoing operations are expected to further weaken the group’s presence in Bosaso, offering hope for a safer and more secure future.
