Ethiopia’s Intelligence Chief Arrives in Mogadishu for High-Level Security Talks

Ridwaan Hussein, Director General of Ethiopia’s National Intelligence and Security Service, is expected to arrive in Mogadishu on Tuesday for high-level consultations with senior officials of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS), Somali sources confirmed.

Officials familiar with the visit said the talks will focus primarily on enhancing bilateral cooperation in the areas of security and intelligence, as well as broader issues of mutual concern affecting regional stability.

According to sources close to the Ethiopian delegation, Addis Ababa is seeking to reinforce coordinated security partnerships across the Horn of Africa, with the objective of addressing shared threats and preventing destabilising activities in the region.

Diplomatic sources indicated that Ethiopia also intends to expedite the implementation of existing security agreements concluded with Somalia, with an emphasis on reactivating and operationalising previously agreed frameworks that have seen limited execution.

Ethiopian officials have repeatedly reaffirmed their country’s support for Somalia’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. Ethiopia has also publicly distanced itself from external interventions in Somali affairs, including those involving Israel.

The visit follows recent regional consultations by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, who held talks on Horn of Africa developments with Djiboutian President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh in Djibouti.

Observers say the Mogadishu meetings underscore ongoing efforts by Somalia and Ethiopia to deepen security coordination amid shifting geopolitical dynamics in the Horn of Africa.
