Mogadishu – Former Somali President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed has issued a strong warning to the country’s leadership over rising public grievances related to land disputes in the capital.
In a press statement, Sharif urged senior officials of the Federal Government of Somalia not to ignore the growing frustration among citizens, many of whom have repeatedly raised concerns about illegal land seizures.
His remarks follow fresh unrest in Mogadishu’s Daynile district, where a young man was reportedly killed during a protest against the government. The victim was among demonstrators voicing opposition to ongoing land appropriation.
Sharif, who previously led Somalia’s transitional government, cautioned that continued disregard for citizens’ concerns could further deepen tensions in the capital, calling on the authorities to urgently address the issue.
