Hundreds of Mogadishu residents have turned up for a rally to express support for president Hassan Shekh and the approval of key electoral reforms by Somalia’s Federal parliament on Tuesday morning.
The residents have come together at the iconic Daljirka Dahsoon Monument as Police and other security agencies have heightened the security situation in the country’s capital, particularly the key roads heading to Daljirka Dahsoon where the rally is being held closed.
The demonstration which was organized by the Mayor of Mogadishu Yusuf Madale was joined by various government officials who delivered speeches underscoring the significance of the approval electoral reforms and its implication in driving the country into a more prosperous and brighter future.
Speaking to the protesters, the mayor underscored the importance of embracing the new electoral framework which empowers every Somali citizen to exercise their constitutional right to vote.
on the other hand ,Opposition leaders have cast doubt on the legitimacy of the recent Mogadishu rally supporting electoral reforms, describing it as government-organized rather than grassroots. They aso expressed concern over the absence of key regions such as Somaliland, Puntland, and Jubbaland. These regions remain at odds with Villa Somalia over the electoral reforms, casting a shadow over the inclusivity of the process and raising questions about national unity in addressing this pivotal issue.
