NISA Expands Security Operations Across Galgaduud

Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has expanded its operational presence in Galgaduud region, part of the federal state of Galmudug, as the government steps up efforts to strengthen security and expand the capacity of national forces.

The agency has increased the number of NISA commands operating across the region and is training newly recruited personnel as part of the expansion. Several training facilities in districts across Galgaduud are currently hosting recruits who are expected to be deployed to NISA stations upon completion of their training.

NISA Director-General Mahad Mohamed Salad has inspected a number of the agency’s facilities in the region, meeting with intelligence and security officers to assess the condition of the forces and receive briefings on their operational requirements.

The expansion comes as the Somali government continues efforts to strengthen the country’s security institutions and increase the capacity of national forces to assume responsibility for security operations across the country.

Somalia is also preparing for a broader transition in which national security forces are expected to take on a greater role in maintaining security as the African Union-backed security mission reduces its direct involvement.

The increased NISA presence in Galgaduud is expected to strengthen intelligence operations, improve security coordination and support ongoing efforts to counter militant threats in central Somalia.

The move is part of the federal government’s broader strategy to build a capable national security architecture and reduce reliance on external forces as Somalia works toward assuming full responsibility for its national security.
