Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, is set to travel to Addis Ababa where he will participate in the 2nd Africa Climate Summit.
During his visit, President Hassan Sheikh will hold a bilateral meeting with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. He is also expected to engage in a series of sideline meetings with African leaders attending the summit.
While addressing the plenary session, the Somali president will deliver remarks on the environmental challenges facing Somalia and the broader impacts of climate change on the region. In addition, he will meet with international organizations and stakeholders involved in climate action and environmental protection.
The visit comes at a time when Ethiopia is preparing to inaugurate its controversial Nile River dam project, which has drawn sharp opposition from Egypt, citing threats to its national interests. President Hassan Sheikh’s attendance at both the climate summit and the dam’s planned opening underscores the delicate balance of regional diplomacy in the Horn of Africa.
