Puntland Cracks Down on Illegal Foreign Entry Amid Battle Against ISIS

GAROWE, Somalia – Puntland, the autonomous region in northeastern Somalia, has introduced strict measures to prevent illegal entry of foreigners. The move comes as part of a broader effort to tackle the growing influence of ISIS militants operating within its borders.

The announcement by the Ministry of Interior follows a series of intense military operations in the Bari region, where Puntland security forces have been battling ISIS fighters entrenched in the Al-Miskaad mountains. Officials report significant progress, including the capture of key militant bases used for training and command operations.

“We cannot allow our region to be destabilized by foreign militants,” stated the ministry on Saturday. “This ban is critical for safeguarding our security and future.”

The ongoing operation has inflicted heavy casualties on ISIS fighters, many of whom are believed to be foreign nationals. Puntland’s government has made it clear that dismantling the group’s networks is a top priority, emphasizing the importance of regional stability and safety for its citizens.

As part of its strategy, Puntland is also calling for greater collaboration with neighboring countries and international partners to monitor border movements and prevent the region from becoming a safe haven for extremists.
