BOSASO, Somalia – Puntland security forces are ramping up operations against Daesh militants in the mountainous Bari region, focusing on areas around Barak Ise near Dharjale. Recent ground and air assaults have reportedly inflicted heavy casualties on the militants, dismantling fortified positions, destroying makeshift camps, and seizing weapons.

The intensified campaign comes after a deadly Daesh assault on a Puntland army camp in Dharjale last week, which involved suicide bombers and direct combat.
