MOGADISHU, Somalia — Qatar’s Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, held a phone call with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Saturday, expressing his country’s solidarity following an attack targeting the president’s convoy earlier this week.
According to a statement from Villa Somalia, the Amir strongly condemned all forms of violence and terrorism threatening Somalia’s stability and security. He also inquired about the president’s health and reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to continued support for the Somali government.
President Mohamud thanked the Amir for his concern and underscored the strong brotherly ties between Somalia and Qatar.
While the attack on the president’s convoy was confirmed, official details—including the exact timing and nature of the incident—have not yet been released. The call comes amid Somalia’s ongoing fight against extremist groups like al-Shabaab.
No additional details about the conversation were provided by either side.
