Mogadishu — The Federal Government of Somalia has announced that Somali National Army (SNA) forces carried out a major, carefully coordinated military operation overnight targeting one of Al-Shabaab’s most significant operational bases in the Bay region.
In an official statement, the government said that elite Danab Special Forces, working in close coordination with international partners, executed a high-precision operation in the Buula Fuuleey area. The operation was aimed at key facilities used by Al-Shabaab for command, coordination, and propaganda activities.
Security officials confirmed that the strike targeted locations where senior Al-Shabaab commanders and fighters were present, resulting in the deaths of more than 20 militants, including several leaders. The operation also led to the destruction of a radio station operated by the group to broadcast its propaganda.
The government has not yet disclosed the identities of those killed, nor released photographic evidence from the operation.
This latest operation comes just two days after a similar strike was conducted against Al-Shabaab positions in the Middle Juba region, where several high-ranking members of the group were reportedly killed.
The Federal Government of Somalia reaffirmed its determination to eliminate Al-Shabaab, stating that security and counterterrorism operations will continue to be intensified across the country as part of ongoing efforts to restore stability and protect civilians.
