Somali MP Removed from Parliament Over Prolonged Absence

Mogadishu (Raxanreeb Online) – The Speaker of the Somali Federal Parliament, Sheikh Aden Mohamed Nur (Madoobe), has officially revoked the parliamentary membership of Abdullahi Hashi Abiib, citing prolonged absenteeism. The decision underscores the importance of active parliamentary participation and accountability.

In an official statement, the Speaker’s Office confirmed that Abiib, who represented seat HOP201, had lost his membership after failing to attend more than two consecutive parliamentary sessions across a total of 141 sittings. The statement emphasized the need for a representative who can fully commit to the duties of the position.

“The Parliament must operate efficiently and uphold its constitutional responsibilities. Given the prolonged absence of the representative for seat HOP201, the necessary steps are now being taken to fill this vacancy,” the statement read.

This parliamentary seat was previously held by Abdirahman Beileh, the former Minister of Finance, who now serves as an advisor to the President of Somaliland. The process to appoint a new MP to represent HOP201 is expected to begin soon.
