Mogadishu — Senior leaders of the Federal Government of Somalia and prominent opposition figures have held separate consultative meetings in recent hours as momentum builds toward the anticipated political dialogue between the two sides. The parallel engagements are aimed at consolidating positions and coordinating strategies ahead of the formal negotiations.
The Presidents of Puntland and Jubbaland convened separate discussions with members of the Federal Parliament representing their respective administrations, including lawmakers from the House of the People and Senators of the Upper House. The consultations focused on the structure, priorities, and potential areas of contention expected to arise during the forthcoming talks.
The Council for Somalia’s Future has agreed to attend a luncheon invitation extended by the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. While the venue has not been officially disclosed, sources indicate that the Council reached its decision following a brief internal consultative meeting held at Hotel Decale in Mogadishu.
The luncheon is expected to mark the first direct and collective engagement between President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and the Council for Somalia’s Future, which was formally announced in December 2025 in Kismayo, the interim capital of Jubbaland State.
According to informed sources, the President intends to use the meeting as a preliminary step toward launching broader negotiations between the Federal Government and opposition stakeholders. The discussions are expected to outline the framework for dialogue and define the key agenda items each side plans to present at the negotiating table.
